After reading chapter nine, answer the following questions and post your answer to each
question number by providing an in-depth discussion (minimum of 100 words):
1. Should United States citizens be covered by a national health plan or private insurance?
American citizens should have the option of choosing between national and private health
insurance plans. America is the greatest and wealthiest of all the countries in the world, and it
should offer national health insurance to all its citizens regardless of their ability to pay. The
country is on track with Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). However, it
should ensure that all citizens receive access to quality and affordable health care to reduce
health disparities among various populations. Private health insurance should continue to be
offered by employers to their employees and should be paid for through payroll deductions. 2. If the USA went to a national health plan - how will the plan be realistically paid for? There needs to be more debate about how to pay for a national healthcare plan in the
United States. I am in favor of a combination of taxes, patient enrollment fees, and federal and
state subsidies. Federal and state governmental entities would establish, administer, and maintain
the program. 3. Is the current Affordable Care Act (ACA) meeting the needs of individuals in today's health market?
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) meets the needs of those enrolled. However, of course, it
should be reevaluated often to make necessary improvements in terms of accessibility and
affordability, especially as it relates to deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses. Combined with
Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance, the Affordable Care Act allows American citizens to
receive the quality health care they choose. 4. Should the ACA be repealed or modified to better cover individuals and balance the finances of healthcare?
I am not in favor of repealing the ACA. The ACA allows citizens to get medical and
health care at a level based on their ability to pay. In addition, it allows dependent children to
remain on their parent's private insurance until age 26. Like any governmental or corporate
program, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) should periodically be modified to make necessary
improvements relating to its accessibility and affordability. Any improvements to the ACA
should consider the overall cost to the American taxpayers.
