Three life management strategies that demonstrate attributes of an authentic leader include being self-
aware, leading with heart, and sharing success with your team
1b. LinkedIn profile:
1c:
1d:
As I currently precept nursing students on my current unit, I included the characteristics of leading by caring, utilizing emotional intelligence, and being mindful in my LinkedIn profile. Without being mindful of both you and others, you allow yourself to be set up for failure. As leaders, we are constantly under a microscope, both inside and outside the hospital. We must always be mindful of our words, actions, and presentation. A leader would be less respected if it was publicly known of their arrest or being a negative member of the community. In addition to being mindful, leaders should also lead by caring. If their heart is not in it, it shows. Employee dissatisfaction increases, morale decreases. A
leader should demonstrate the type of character, work ethic, and employee that team should strive to convey.
There are many benefits to joining a professional community of MSN nurses. One example would include learning new studies and experiences that others are sharing. Another example would be having easy access to nurses that have similar goals or mindsets. Personally, there are many MSNs that I consider mentors through work. One actually went through this exact program and inspired me to do the same.

Scenario
Self-awareness
Mindfulness, self-reflection, growth mindset, identifying emotions
A boss reflects back on a previous scenario with an employee regarding a disagreement. The boss “lost his
cool” and began letting personal
feelings towards his coworker dictate his argument. The boss finds the employee and apologizes, then listens to feedback. This demonstrates growth mindset, identifying emotions, and self-reflection.
Self-management
Time management, attention to detail, stress management, resilience, goal setting
An employee takes ACLS for the first time and fails the written portion of the test. He sets a self-goal to pass the retake a week later. He studies for an hour each morning, afternoon, and evening. If he starts feeling anxious, he reminds himself of his goals and takes a small break. This demonstrates goal setting, time management, and stress management skills.
Interpersonal communication
Compassion, relationship building, mentoring, active listening, conflict resolution, written communication
Our current employer uses Microsoft Teams to utilize written communication between coworkers. Yesterday, an email was sent out regarding
a specific situation and how they would prefer it be handled 3

in the future. I personally emailed my employer and apologized if I had played into it, then listened to their suggestions.
Executive function
Self-directed learning, creativity, critical thinking, research
A PCT moves a patient from the bed to the chair. Their external catheter does not reach that far. Using creativity and critical thinking regarding the importance of the external catheter, the PCT makes an extension tubing for the external catheter with supplies from other kits.
Social awareness
Empathy, appreciation for diversity, perspective taking, cultural awareness, responsibility to others
While working on a busy medical-surgical unit, a nurse notices her coworker’s electronic medication list has a lot of “late” medications. The first nurse remembers what it is
like to be a newer nurse and have high-acuity patients. The nurse asks the other nurse if she would like some help passing out these medications. The other nurse starts crying and thanks her profusely. The first nurse is demonstrating empathy and responsibility to others.
