Maya Van Zinsser Memoir
In Zinsser's "How to write a Memoir" it gives very specific advice for a memoir writers. He gives
great suggestions such as "Be yourself, "Tell your own story," and think small" (2,4,6). These
suggestions encourage writers to think about how they would want to tell their story as much as they
want to say. Some of his memoirs seem to follow his guidelines and some of the books don't. In her
memoir popular. Maya Van Wagenen supports Zinsser's writing ideas throughout her use of a child's
point of view, an honest storytelling, and a structure of small memoires. Zinsser said "The best
memoirs are written from the point of view from a child. Maya Wagenen, memoir says," because I
was five, my sister died.(62). This means she was writing

Examples Of A Memoir Essay
Memoir
I was eight or seven, I lived in Gallup New Mexico at the time. One day in the summer my mother,
cousin and I decided to visit our uncle Paul. He was an older man but very athletic he had his own
home gym in his basement. When we got to his house he and my mother sat and had a grown–up
conversation, me and my cousin Jerry decided to go explore the basement. In our uncle's basement,
he had four rooms
. One had a huge pool table, another one was filled with weights and matts for
yoga, the third one we never went into because the door was always locked. And the fourth, this
fourth room would become my worst nightmare, it was filled with elliptical and treadmill
equipment. After a while jerry and I got bored with playing our version of pool

We had a great plan, we decided to go explore the fourth room of the basement. Once inside we
started climbing and playing with the elliptical. I looked over to the treadmill and said to jerry, "I've
got a great idea. Why don't we get on the treadmill with only our socks on and run as fast as the
treadmill can go and then jump off." Now jerry was only a year younger than me but he of course
thought it was a great idea. So, we each took our shoes of and stood on the treadmill, the treadmill
itself was relatively old and was so close to the wall. We stood there not thinking of the
consequences of our actions, looked at one another and grinned a big grin. I turned the knob slowly,
we started speed walking the running and running faster till we were panting, the knob was on fast
burn the fastest setting on the treadmill. Jerry jumped off, me on the other hand tripped over my
socks, I fell and the treadmill still on the fasts setting pushed me up against the wall my neck to the
back of the treadmill and my legs bent over my head like a contortionist. I screamed and screamed.
My cousin sat there in silence watching this horrid event unfold before him, all the color flushed
from his body. I screamed and yelled at jerry to go get help as I attempted to reach for

Memoir Research Paper
Memoir Rough Draft: That day I learned something the hard way being scared on a ride. Most
people might think about that ride being fun but when being on a ride with having drops you get
scared. Especially if you haven't rode any rides that drop. When the place says its suppose to The
Happiest Place on Earth!
Summer vacation no better way then to go to Disneyland with your family and spend some quality
fun time with them. July 19,2016 the day i've been waiting for since my mom told us that we were
going. My sister and I did a count down. That day finally arrived but it didn't go as expected. The
morning of that day was a nightmare. My mom acting crazy and grumpy. I think she's stressed about
going there. Since Disneyland is expensive we decided to eat pancakes from McDonalds.

Drove away to Disneyland. Waking up at 5;30 am to get ready is exhausting. So i took a nap in the
car. We finally arrived there but there was a problem, we couldn't find the parking lots. My dad got
mad, we were about to leave if we couldn't find the parking lots. An hour later we were finally able
to find the parking lots because of a kind disneyland worker. We paid to get into the parking lots. I
changed into shorts because it was hot but who knew it would rain i would have to change in an
elevator. Got in a bus to get to the entrance of disneyland.
My family didn't really care if there is a long line as long as we get in there. We went into
Adventures since we never have been there. Like usual we won't go searching for a ride so my dad,
my 2 sisters, and I went on BigFoot Rapids I knew that there were drops but wasn't that sure. People
were screaming so i thought why would they scream for no reason. Thinking in my mind I'm gonna

Graduation Memoir
Graduation memoir Senior year! Every senior is eager for graduation, their making college
decisions, taking their SAT tests, getting senior portraits, and looking forward to getting ready for
graduation day. Thinking back now, almost every adult told me my high school years would fly by,
they were right. I remember being an anxious eighth grader thinking about starting my freshman
year of high school
. We went from being at the top of the school to being at the bottom of a new
one. All of our middle school teachers always told us about how our high school teachers wont
"hold our hands" and how we will be on our own. Being in high school is completely different than
being in elementary school and middle school. Its almost like each year we have more and more
freedom but more responsibility. Sophomore year was when it got more difficult for me, I've always
had anxiety, but

The night of graduation we all lined up the same way we did at practice, ABC order, as I walked out
I felt so rewarded that I was able to make it to my high school graduation. We all sat in a huge gym
surrounded by our loves ones, Black and gold caps and gowns filled the room. I waited anxiously
for my name to be called; with my last name starting with a W I was pretty much at the end. I
walked up and across the stage, shook their hand as I received my diploma and smiled for a picture.
As I walked back to my seat I feel my eyes start to water because I felt so proud of myself that I
made it to this point after years of hard work. I look around once I'm seated and see how happy
everyone is. Next year everyone will be going their separate ways, starting college and making new
friends. The ceremony ends with a bunch of smiles, some tears and caps being thrown up in the air
while everyone is clapping for

How To Read My Memoirs
Reading other students memoirs and writing a series of drafts helps my editing and revision
processes. Feedback from classmates is useful because I am able to take their suggestions and apply
them to my writing to improve my memoir. Reading other memoirs allows me to detect what the
writer may have been missing, and determine whether or not I have also missed a major key point.
Writing a series of memoir drafts is important because each time I read my writing I am able to
critique it more than I was before, and I am capable of pinpointing certain mistakes and focusing on
them. While reading other memoirs, I was looking for certain literary devices and basic essay
format. For example, I made sure the writer included at least one simile or metaphor, as well as
proper spacing and indenting. I also checked for the fundamental aspects that were addressed by the
teacher. Such as dialogue, internal and external action, internal and external thought, and imagery.
By reading my classmates' memoirs I was able to identify what they were missing from the criteria
and take my memoir into consideration as well. For instance, while reading Miranda's memoir I
noticed that she had a lack of dialogue. Then, when going back to look at my memoir, I saw that I
also needed to add dialogue to my memoir. My development as a memoirist improved by reading
memoirs,

I decided to add imagery because my memoir was not something everyone can relate to, so I had to
describe the situation more thoroughly to allow the reader to visualize the situation. Doing so
impacted my memoir's meaning because I pushed deeper and made the story more envisioning. To
enumerate, towards the end of my memoir I wrote, "The hospital room was filled with distress...I I
heard machines beeping, people weeping..." Everyone has been in a hospital room, so I described a
scenario where people can imagine what the room looks like and relate it to their
