3.
Identify a debatable topic
related to your chose source.
a.
A four-day work week should be the norm, replacing the five-day work week.
b.
The first perspective is that a work-life balance should be closer to 50-50 than 70-30, this will lead to greater worker efficiency and worker retention. Another perspective is that the five-day work week is a harm to your personal health which employers should be more responsible for.
4.
Write a research question
about your topic.
a.
To solve the problem of high quit rates due to uneven work/life balances, what do employers need to do to retain talent.
b.
My question is about high quit rates, also known as the Great Resignation, specifically due to an unfavorable work/life balance.
c.
We will examine how a shorter work week can improve that balance, which will lead to more employees staying with their current employers.
d.
Five-day work weeks have been the norm for so long now, that decreasing it by one day could be seen by many as a cry from a lazy generation to just work less. Some companies do already offer four-day work weeks, but at the cost of longer days, so what
is the benefit there? Other people would argue that the current standard work/life balance goes against human freedoms and feel that work encroaches on our personal life too much. They will also argue that the long weeks lead to burn-out amongst employees and why there is such a high turnover across the board.
5.
State the purpose of your research.
a.
I want to persuade companies to switch to a more favorable work/life balance for their employees, to both help them retain employees, and improve their employee’s quality of life.
b.
I want to have more facts and data about four-day work weeks, as I agree with the argument, but is based off personal experience.
