Notes about the lab: 1. For modeling, you can use the generic ‘zener’ component, and set the breakdown voltage by right-clicking. 2. We talked in class about a one diode half-cycle rectifier, and a two diode full wave rectifier with a center-tapped transformer. The full wave rectifier is not practical in our lab. There is another ciccuit, using just diodes, which can make a full wave rectifier, which is shown below: During positive half cycle During negative half cycle This realizes a full wave rectified waveform across the load, minus two diode drops. You can use this for your power supply design, or a half wave rectifier. Online students must use a full- wave. If you use a full wave rectifier, note that neither end of the full wave rectifier is ground. In order to measure the voltage of your power supply you will have to put two oscillator probes to ground, and have it subtract the voltages (which it can do). https://www.electronics-tutorials.ws/diode/diode_6.html 3. There are 1mF capacitors available. 4. To demonstrate the circuit fully, you should switch in two loads, one drawing 30mA (which is 300 ohms at 3V), and one drawing much less, and show the voltage meets the voltage and voltage ripple requirements, and that it roughly matches simulations.
