To correctly wire a 120-volt lighting and receptacle control circuit using the provided lab material. Materials & Tools Required : #14/2 NMD90 Cable (Romex) Linesmen Pliers S1 Romex Staples Diagonal Pliers 1/2” Plastic Romex Connectors Needle-nose Pliers Electrical Boxes Screwdrivers (Various) 120 V 15A Receptacles Wire Strippers 120 V 15A Switches Marrettes 120 V 15A Breaker Deck Screws NOTE: Do not install any improper or damaged components. Wiring must be performed to meet current electrical code requirements. Installation Instructions : Install NMSC from the breaker panel to the required outlet boxes. Be sure to install according to the CEC rules. (i.e., points of support, correct length of wire in box). Connect switch to control a lamp, Connect a receptacle. Connect to panel with correct size breaker. Have instructor review finished connections. Instructor will then “Power On” completed circuit to allow for circuit testing. Answer all questions for this lab listed below.
Page 2 of 3 Questions : State the CEC rule number if the code book is used. 1. Would the circuit still work if you used the white wire for power and black for neutral? The answer is no. It will create a short circuit. If, however, you mean that you don’t have enough wire to run your neutral, so you add some black wires and mark them with white paint or tape, then, yes, it’s safe. 2. List another name for the identified conductor? In either case, the identified conductor is the grounded circuit conductor or a neutral. 3. Why are the terminals of the lamp holder colour coded? The terminals of the lamp holder are colour coded because it helps you match each wire to the correct terminals. 4. What are the distances NMSC cable need to be supported (stapled) when run between boxes according to the CEC? Show the Code Rule. The distances NMSC cable need to be supported when run between boxes according to CEC is 32 mm. 5. Which conductors (hot, ground or neutral) are always connected to the light switches? Hot wires are always connected to light switches because hot wires are phase wires which carries the current. LAB MARK QUESTIONS TOTAL MARK 10 5 15 Instructor Signature
