The average cost of broadband internet in America in 2017 was $66.17. 2. What was the average monthly cost of broadband in France in 2017? In Germany? In South Korea? The average monthly cost of broadband in France was $38.10, in Germany it was $35.71, and in South Korea it was $29.90 3. According to the article, why does the U.S. have a higher average cost of internet compared to other countries? The higher average cost of the internet in the U.S. compared to some other countries is because of the lack of robust competition in many areas which leads to a limited number of providers with less incentive to offer competitive pricing. 4. Do you think the U.S. market for internet is efficient? Explain your answer. I think that the market lacks efficiency due to limited competition in many areas. This in turn leads to higher prices and fewer incentives for providers to improve services. 5. How could government action make the U.S. market for internet more efficient? Government action can enhance the efficiency of the U.S. internet market by promoting healthy competition among providers through clear regulations. Investing in broadband infrastructure, particularly in underserved areas, ensures broader access and affordability. Consumer protection measures, such as transparent pricing and fair dispute resolution, contribute to a more equitable market. Additionally, fostering innovation through supportive policies can drive advancements, ultimately leading to more efficient and competitive internet services nationwide. 6. What do you estimate is your maximum Willingness To Pay (WTP) for internet access? I believe that an estimate of about $65-$100 is how much people are willing to pay for internet access. 7. What do you estimate is your own personal Consumer Surplus (CS) for the internet access you currently have? My personal CS for the internet access that I currently have is between $30 to $50. 8. What company or entity provides your internet or internet access, and how do
you feel about that company or that entity? My internet is from Xfinity. I personally really like them because they are affordable and work pretty well. Despite me having two roommates and us all having 3 or more devices that require wifi we hardly have trouble with slow internet speeds. Also between the 3 of us we only pay $19 each.
