In this instance, information was shared on public forums, so it is not considered fraudulent. Some investors lost while others profited. The people who lose money view this as biased and unfair. 2. Do You Think the Redditors' Collective Action Is Any Different from Hedge Funds Deciding To Short GameStop? The decision to shorten GameStop was intended to gain profits from the drop in stock price. The Redditors' action aimed to test stockholders by short squeezing returns. Both sides were properly coordinated and showed great trading strategies. 3. What Long-Term Impact Do You Think The GameStop Fiasco Will Have on Investment Practices And The Wall Street Power Dynamic? Social media was a large piece of the GameStop fiasco. Its influence has interrupted traditional markets, which could prompt heavier regulations regarding the protection of stock markets from market manipulation. The need for transparency was a big concern that emerged, therefore this reform could have long-term implications on investment practices. 4. Reflection – This case study has detailed the cause and effects for unprecedented forces, social media. Social media is still new with more and more platforms being added. This being the case, long-term impacts are yet to be seen. People are able to connect worldwide sharing ideas, it’s just the beginning in seeing how this exposure will impact each piece of our modern society.
