Kayla Bragg ECON 101 Dr. Crystal Brown November 12, 2023 Prosperity Essay The term "prosperity" refers to a state of flourishing or success, typically characterized by economic well-being, abundance, and overall favorable conditions. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, "successful" or "thriving" is described as achieving a good outcome or experiencing growth and prosperity. The provided definition pertains to the economic domain and is grounded in the context of tangible assets. Most individuals perceive this concept as monetary affluence or a closely related notion. Therefore, prosperity can be equated to wealth. Carson and Cleveland (pp. 226) assert that an unequal wealth distribution exists across nations and global populations. This phenomenon can be attributed to various factors, including disparities in the allocation of resources, variations in individual aptitude and cognitive abilities, and differences in work ethic and motivation. Nevertheless, prosperity encompasses a broader significance beyond material possessions or monetary affluence. The Laws of God were established to facilitate the success of humanity as individuals who are regarded as God's offspring. God divinely bestowed the Ten Commandments as a moral compass and instructional manual for human conduct. The solution can be found by directing our attention towards them. Although the Bible contains numerous additional laws attributed to God, the ten laws discussed

herein are well-recognized and familiar to most individuals during their early childhood. The Ten Commandments are a foundational framework for achieving success. The initial commandment imparts a significant moral instruction to followers of the Christian faith, stating, "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other God's before me." (Exodus 20:2-3). The commandment states that individuals are prohibited from worshiping any deities other than the one true God. According to the scriptures, individuals are instructed to prioritize their devotion to God and adhere to His commandments to attain a righteous path. With divine guidance, our actions will be steadfast, and we will achieve success through God's benevolence, compassion, forbearance, and deliverance bestowed. "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you." (Exodus 20:12 ESV). From an early age, children are instilled with the value of demonstrating respect towards their parents. Parents serve as figures of authority, and learning to show respect towards authority figures is a crucial life lesson. "To honor one's parents, therefore, is to give due weight to their position. It is to give them the recognition they deserve for their God-given authority. To honor is to respect, esteem, value, and prize fathers and mothers as gifts from God." (Ryken pp.119). There are numerous justifications for children to demonstrate reverence for their parents. Parents merit recognition for the countless sacrifices they undertake for the sake of their young children. Their depth of life experience justifies the need to lend them an attentive ear. However, the commandment itself asserts that the act of honoring our parents ultimately benefits our welfare. The commitment to fostering economic well-being is designed to support the younger generation further. Consistent

obedience can be perceived as complex, requiring self-discipline that may be challenging to maintain. In the case of adolescents, their compliance tends to be facilitated when the prospect of a reward is presented to them, the prize being a long, eternal life in God's land. We must remember that the laws He bestowed upon us serve as a compass to navigate our existence. However, it is crucial to internalize these teachings and consistently reflect upon the divine bestowal of redemption and virtue. Following the Ten Commandments is sufficient justification since doing so honors God. Therefore, I return to the inquiry on the concept of prosperity. I firmly believe that a life characterized by wealth aligns with the divine intention for individuals as children of God. By adhering to the teachings of God's Word, individuals can potentially acquire boundless resources. The belief is that if individuals adhere to the principles outlined in God's Word, they will receive divine provision and experience prosperity.
