Economics Section 1 of Chapter 10 covers the monopolistic competitor; one tool that firms have in this market structure is advertising. For this discussion, your task is to (answer all of the following): 1. Think about and describe a real-world advertising campaign that you have witnessed. If available, please share the campaign ad in your post (YouTube link, Image, etc.). Make sure ad complies with student code of conduct. 2. Describe the types of media this campaign used. 3. Describe how this campaign meant to differentiate the firm’s product from others? In your opinion, was it effective? Why or why not? One of the advertisements that comes to mind is apples think different campaign. This campaign had the goal of celebrating many notable individuals for their contribution and innovation towards society. Individuals like Einstein for example were featured. Furthermore the advertisement tried to show Apple as going against the grain through creativity and pushing new innovation ahead of its time. The campaign used various types of media. Firstly through television there was a short video showing the notable figures they wanted to highlight. Secondly through print in magazines like newsweek and time. And lastly there were posters made with one historical figure and the think different slogan in the corner. The advertisement is different from competitors because Apple was branding itself against the status
