2 Part 1: Overview and Purpose My argumentative research paper's goal is to promote legislation that makes it simpler for employees to create unions and organize. Allowing workers to organize is a crucial first step in establishing a just and equitable society, and organized labor is vital for the development and prosperity of the United States. The historical background of labor organizing and union membership in the United States, as well as how this has affected the economy as well as the lives of workers, will be examined in my research. The value of giving workers the power to bargain for greater pay, benefits, and safer working conditions is one of the key topics I plan to cover in my article. I intend to argue that "Right to Work" legislation is counterproductive because they deny workers the ability to band together and bargain for better terms. A unified, organized workforce can achieve its objectives better than several independent workers during negotiations. Additionally, a unionized workforce is advantageous to its members as well as the larger community because union workers spend their income locally and support small businesses. I will gather research on the pay, benefits, and working conditions of unionized as well as non-unionized workers to bolster my claim. I will also be looking at how unionization affects the economy and how it relates to the happiness of employees and their families. Additionally, I want to look at the reasons for and against unionization from the viewpoints of businesspeople, economists, and labor analysts. When it comes to the remaining studies I must undertake, I look into more recent studies on the effects of unionization on local economies and communities, as well as studies on wages and working conditions. Additionally, I want to look for instances of effective labor-organizing campaigns and analyze the tactics they used.
3 My thoughts about my topic and purpose have remained roughly the same after finishing this task. I believe that unionization is a critical strategy for enhancing the standard of living for workers and that legislation should be passed to make it simpler for employees to organize and form unions. Nevertheless, now that I am more aware of the precise subjects and study areas I want to cover in my paper, I will be able to present a more convincing and well-researched case. Part 2: Thesis Statement: Here is a preliminary thesis statement for my argumentative research paper: “Passing laws that make it easier for workers to organize and form unions is essential to creating a fair and just society, empowering workers to negotiate for better wages, benefits, and working conditions, and supporting the growth and prosperity of local communities.”
