CIS225 – 3.3 Networking and Routing Protocols When would you choose to add dynamic routes? When you add dynamic routes has supported the most common open routing protocols since version 3.0. The support for these routing protocols has been enhanced over time, and newer protocols have been added. Another significant area of improvement has been the addition of support for IPv6 information. Dynamic Routes are commonly broken into two major categories: Interior routing protocols or IGP (Interior Gateway Protocols) and Exterior routing protocols or EGP. An IGP is ordinarily utilized inside a single organization, whereas an EGP is regularly utilized to associate dissimilar organizations or expansive Enterprises to the Web. Tear and OSPF are cases of IGP, whereas BGP and IS-IS can be utilized as either an IGP or EGP. When would you choose to add static routes? Static routing can be utilized to characterize an exit point from a router when no other routes are accessible or fundamental. Typically called a default route. Static routing can be utilized for small systems that require as it were one or two routes. This is often more productive since an interface is not being squandered by exchanging dynamic routing data. Static routing is often used as a complement to dynamic routing to provide a failsafe backup if a dynamic route is unavailable. Static routing is often used to help transfer routing information from one routing protocol to another (routing redistribution). Are all dynamic protocols supported on all routers? How do you find out which ones are supported?
CIS225 – 3.3 Networking and Routing Protocols There are several protocols that can be supported with dynamic routing. Routing Information Protocol (RIP) is a distance-vector routing protocols that avoids steering circles by executing a restrain on the number of hops permitted in a way from source to destination.  Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) uses a link state routing (LSR) algorithm and falls into the group of interior gateway protocols (IGPs). Intermediate System to Intermediate System (IS-IS) decides the finest route for data through a packet-switched network. Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP) and its advanced form Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP)are utilized by routers to exchange steering information inside an independent framework. Dynamic routing protocol that is the most different from all the others is the  Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) . RIP, EIGRP and OSPF are all interior gateway protocols (IGP) while BGP is an exterior gateway protocol (EGP).  Step-by-step explanation   Can more than one dynamic routing protocol be used on a single router?  Most networks, a  single dynamic routing protocol is used ; however, there are cases where different parts  of  the net- work  can  use different routing protocols. Dynamic routing protocol automatically share that information with other routers. A routing protocol is the language a router talks with other routers in arrange to share data approximately the reachability and status of systems.

This section gives an overview of the most common IP routing protocols. Most of these routing protocols will be examined in detail in other chapters. For now, this section gives a very brief overview of each protocol. Because BGP is the only EGP available, the term EGP is rarely used; instead, most engineers simply refer to BGP. What would be the advantages/disadvantages of multiple dynamic routing protocols on a single router? ADVANTAGE                                                                                   DISADVANTAGE Simple to execute in a small network Suitable for basic topologies or for special purposes such as a default static route. Very secure. No advertisements are sent, unlike with dynamic routing protocols. dramatically as the network develops. Overseeing the static setups in expansive systems can ended up time consuming. It is very predictable, as the route to the destination is always the same. If a link fails, a static route cannot reroute traffic. Therefore, manual intervention is required to re-route traffic. required. Subsequently, additional assets (CPU and memory) are not required.
