Lynda Heath Task 1 D173 A. Create an original website that demonstrates the importance of educational technology for teaching and student learning, using a website authoring tool. Submit an accessible URL of the website. Adhere to the following requirements for the pages within your website. 1. Create a webpage describing the purpose of the website and your personal philosophy for using educational technology to facilitate student learning. Address each of the following: equitable use, ethical use, and social responsibility. The purpose of this website is to provide fellow teachers and administrators a glimpse into some of the benefits of integrating technology into the classroom. Through technology, we can introduce new concepts in multiple ways to reach every student. This will allow them to learn in the way that fits them individually. It is my personal philosophy that integrating technology into our teaching and learning is vital to reach this generation of students. We must engage their minds to help them reach their potential and technology is one tool that can help us expand their thinking. Teachers must create a learning environment that empowers and engages students to meet the educational goals and expectations set out by the school and those they have set for themselves. I believe that as teachers integrate technology into their lessons, they will see an increase in both areas. We must be aware of the digital code and provide equitable use of technology among our students. While every school will vary in their resources, teachers must create a learning environment that provides every student an equal opportunity at success. Schools where students have 1:1 device provides equity within the classroom, but
we must also be aware that not all families have sufficient internet access at home. Teachers must understand the needs of their individual students and allow for sufficient opportunity for assignments utilizing technology to take place during the school day when all children have access to both their device and internet. Integrating educational technology, “can help create a personalized learning experience, ensuring that, through a differentiated approach, all students can access information at their own page and in a way that’s best suited to their language needs.” Anderson, K. (2019, April 29). How access to technology can create equity in schools. Retrieved from https://digitalspromise.org/2019/04/29/equity-in- schools-access-technology/ As we increase the use of technology in our classrooms, school administration and teachers must be aware of all laws and protections in place to ensure the safety of teachers and students. It is important to become familiar with CIPA (Children’s Internet Protection Act). CIPA provides guidelines for schools and libraries regarding safeguards against inappropriate and harmful content, safety in digital communication, hacking and accessing personal information. Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA). Retrieved https://www.fcc.gov./consumers/guides/childrens-internet- protection-act . Teachers must also become familiar with Copyright and Fair Use of materials, not only for your own protection, but also to teach students as they do research, write essays, and create digital projections. The internet places massive amounts of information at our fingertips, but also allows for ease of copying others work. Part of incorporating technology into learning will require lessons hon how to navigate the digital information safely. We have spent years in schools teaching children what it looks like to be socially responsible. The integration of technology adds another layer to this responsibility. We must teach students to be good digital citizens. Digital citizenship is defined by the International Society of
Technology in Education (ISTE) and includes understanding and practicing appropriate, legal, ethical, and responsible behavior when using technology. Our actions and expectations should be for students to be safe (protect yourself and others), be savvy (educate yourself and others), and social (respect yourself and others). Ribble, M. (2018, June 7). The top five elements of student digital citizenship. Retrieved from https://edtechmagazine.com/k12/article/2018/06/top-fi-elements- student -digital-citizenship. Just as teachers post class rules, procedures, and expectations, we must continually review digital rules and expectations for students to maintain social responsibility. 2A. Create a web page about choosing educational technology that facilitates student learning by doing the following: 1. Edsurge Product Index – Edsurge is a resource that allows educators to research current technology tools and products to support classroom learning, assessments, and student data management. https://index.edsurge.com/ 2. LearnTrials – LearnTrials uses input from educators to create a data base of research, reviews, comparsions and “how-to” for a variety of tech tools to assist teachers in selecting the best fit for their classroom needs. https://www.learntrials.com/ 3. Learning Assembly – fosters collaboration between educators and edtech companies assess the best technology tools currently available. Through this collaboration, they can help teachers identify the best tools to support teaching and learning in their classroom to boost the learning outcomes. Learning Assembly also works with educators to provide feedback to technology companies to promote improvement on products. https://learningassembily.org/ Resources to Help You Choose the Digital Tools Your Classroom Needs by Karen Johnson, March 15, 2016

Describe two methods or strategies for integrating educational technology to facilitate student learning. Social Learning Strategy – tools such as Edmondo or OpenStudy allow students to connect online, work together to learn class material (like online study hall), ask questions, and engage in class discussion. While apps like Google Docs allows teachers and students to provide real-time feedback to enhance learning and promote deeper thinking during the editing process of writing. https://edutopia.org/article/research-based-tech-integration- strategies . Research-Based Tech Integration Strategies by Liz Kolb September 28, 2018 Learning Stations – allows teachers to integrate technology into a learning station and use a variety of apps such as Epic or Khan Academy for differentiated learning. This decreases the number of devices needed, allows for students to take more ownership of their learning, and frees up the teacher to work with students in small groups on difficult material or areas of need. 3.My fifth-grade class is currently learning how to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators. This addresses math standard 5.NFA.1 (Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators). The class will use the IXL math app to supplement instruction of this standard. The app adapt to each students individual needs and mastery of content. https://www.ixl.com/math/grade-5/subtract-mixed-numbers-with- unlike-denominators .
To check for understanding I will use a formative assessment that I create on the Formative math app. https://www.formative.com/subject/math . We will review any problems that have less than 80% of students answering incorrectly. I will also check for students who are not understanding the standard as a whole to provide small group instruction with myself or a paraeducator. https://www.edutopia.org/blog/5-fast-formative- assessment-tools-vicki-davis Fantastic, Fast Formative Assessment Tools. By Vicki Davis Updated May 8, 2017 For Summative Assessment, I will create and upload the test to the Classkick app for students to take at the end of the unit. ClassKick allows for auto-grading and grade tracking to make it quick and simple to see how students are performing and track their progress. This will allow me more time to determine mastery of content and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of every student. https://classkick.com/ 4A Imagine Learning – provides interactive, game-like learning that is engaging and unique. The curriculum adapts to each student to meet them at where they are in their learning process. Learning is scaffolded, making it effective in fostering and supporting independent learning for all students in multiple subject areas, including ELA, math, science, and multilingual curriculum. https://www.imaginelearning.com/ Raz-kids – is a digital comprehensive leveled reading app that allows students to access eBook’s for listening, reading, and recording themselves reading. Once they complete a book, students take a quiz to assess reading comprehension. After completing 10 eBook’s and passing quizzes, students are moved to the next level. This allows for students to be independent and complete reading at their pace. https://www.raz-kids.com/
4B Assistive Listening Devices – this devices magnifies the teacher’s voice or audio sound which is then paired directly with the student’s hearing aid or cochlear implant. Many of these of devices also adapt to plug into a computer in place of headphones to connect the computer’s audio directly to the student’s hearing aid. Text-to-speech – takes the words on a computer and read them aloud to the student. The device allows the students who struggle to read or pay attention the ability to hear the words while seeing them highlighted on the screen. This can be especially helpful for students struggling with decoding.
