The beginning part of the Ideate stage of the design process is diverging from your problem statement and creating ideas. My problem statement was that t here’s a need for a transparent whiteboard that teachers can use from home that lets them use regular markers and is easily compactible so it can be put out of the way(Quiz 2 Part 2). These ideas can be split up into subsystems, like earlier in the design process. You can then create different ideas and concepts for different subsystems you have. For this case study you can split the problem into subsystems, these can be drawing surface, compactibility, and visually appealing. I would come to these subsystems based off past prioritized needs. To come up with ideas for the subsystems there s many ways to come up with ideas, like sketching, storyboarding, and brainstorming. For this example, I ll use brainstorming. The process of brainstorming starts with coming up with what our objective of the brainstorming is, in this example we are trying to get different ideas for solutions for our different subsystems. Once we come up with a list of ideas you put them into a table. This table will include the three different subsystems we were working on. Then is the next step of the Ideate process. We will prioritize and organize it to converge to a final solution. The whole point of ideation is to create a final idea based off our design criteria and our problem statement. For this case study I created this table. Subsystems Drawing Surface Compactibility Visually Appealing Solution Ideas, concepts Glass Comes apart into pieces All the same colour See Through Plastic Folds Together Simple two colour White Board Expands Upwards Rainbow coloured Tablet For coming to a solution, you must also weigh the pros and cons of each subsystem and choose which one benefits you the most. based off priority of the client we got from interpreted needs in an earlier stage of the design process I ve converged to a final solution which will be made of see-through plastic, expanding upwards and all the same colours. I came to this solution by choosing the best solution from each subsystem. I chose see-through plastic because a need for the client is that it should be see through, and they are also concerned about the price, so glass wasn t a great option. White board wasn t a great idea because it wasn t see-through, but the teachers could use the same markers as before, also the tablet style would use too much internet which is a concern for the client. I chose expands upwards because some teachers wanted to be able to sit and stand while using it and keep it able to put away. This way I can address both issues with one solution. There wasn t much thought behind the last one except that it was simple, just hopefully one of the cl ients’ husbands will like it.
