CNT 4182 – Security Scenario Lab Thomas Oku Point A: 1. Possible Deliberate acts of theft or also acts of human failure – depending on if they were stolen or misplaced. Is stolen then also possible acts of trespass to get into their kept location. 2. As of this point it is an internal issue, since the real cause has yet to be identified. 3. Right now nobody should be notified until they are found or deemed stolen. 4. Nobody outside. 5. This absolutely could be avoided by having a chain of custody policy implanted, especially for important prototypes such as AES decryption. Point B: 1. Missing makes me think there was an act of trespass and that there was Deliberate acts of theft. 2. At this point it is still an internal issue since there is no evidence of an outside party. 3. Security should be notified as well as management of the IT department or your direct supervisor. 4. Until further investigation is completed, nobody outside should be notified. 5. This absolutely could be avoided by having a chain of custody policy implanted, especially for important prototypes such as AES decryption. Implement badge scans for entering and leaving locations especially with advanced prototypes. Point C: 1. This feels like a possible DoS attack or DDoS attack. For it to be solely internal could be also a worm inside the network. 2. At this point it is still an internal issue since there is no evidence of an outside party. 3. Security should be notified and scans on the area where the traffic is coming from should be perform. PCs should be Isolated from the network and scanned. 4. Nobody outside should be notified. 5. Policies on clicking on links and Anti-virus should have been implement to catch and worms or viruses that could be infecting the machines internally. Point D: 1. Acts of human failure. Cleaning company should have notified us that they would be unable to perform their said duties. 2. This is an external issue since it’s a 3 rd party cleaning service. 3. I would notify management and suggest a new cleaning company be selected since there was a clear miscommunication. 4. Nobody should be notified outside.
5. Have a clear schedule and recognizing when people who were supposed to show up didn’t. Maybe a sign in log or a security check point when allowing people in and out of the facility. Point E: 1. Acts of Human error, possible compromise of intellectual property, deliberate acts of trespass, Possible theft. 2. Internal issue. 3. Security and management should be notified. That side door should be locked and that employee should be locked out the system until an investigation can be conducted. 4. Nobody outside should be notified yet. 5. Yes, by securing the side door. Having further surveillance throughout the building. Everyone who enters and exits should be identified with ID.
