Characteristics of the house chosen There are a total of 10 rooms in the house. It consists of two consecutive floors. Location of devices All the devices can be connected via Wi-fi connection. Routers can be used for extending the range over multiple floors. All the devices would be connected to the router (1 router for each floor). Phones, tablets, laptops are all wireless devices. Hence, their location cannot be determined. They can be anywhere, up-to around 45 meters of range. Cables can be used to connect the two routers to the main connection. Usually, cables connect the routers to the nearest main connection outside the house.  Justification for the choice of network Wi-fi networks work best for wireless connections within the range of a house. It can provide connection to as many as 250 devices. It provides a very good bandwidth to all the devices. It is inexpensive, i.e., could be easily affordable.  Different Internet Service Providers in the area Some different types of ISPs are: Mobile broadband (Verizon/Spectrum) Cable broadband (Spectrum) DSL (Verizon, CenturyLink, Windstream) Wireless broadband Suitable network Wireless broadband/ Wi-fi network The network to be chosen here is wireless broadband. As, it will allow wireless devices to be connected within a given range. Device needed Some of the devices which are needed to set up this connection are: Modem Router Home - Gateway Role of different devices in the connection Modem: To provide connectivity to the internet. Router: To transmit the signals from the modem to other devices.
Home – Gateway: To provide internet access, wireless connectivity, and local logic for smart devices. Step-by-step explanation Specifications of the house There are a total of 10 rooms distributed over two consecutive floors. Five rooms are on the 1st floor and the other five are on the 2nd floor. Location of devices A router is connected to the connection line using cables. The router should be placed near to the main connection (which is usually outside the house). Devices can be placed anywhere within the range of Wi-fi. The average range of a Wi-fi network is up to 45 to 50 m. Mobile devices can easily be moved within the house. A modem must be connected to the Home-Gateway and then Home-Gateway connected to the router to share the bandwidth load and provide more range for all other wireless devices around the house. Reason for choosing Wi-fi It provides a good range of networks which is good for any house network. Users can easily extend the range by installing more routers. It is easy to install. Spectrum offers fastest and more reliable connection speeds in my area. Router can be shifted easily by adjusting the cables. Types of Internet Service Providers in the area There are many different types of ISP’s. Some of them are. Mobile broadband These ISPs provide wireless connection via modem. Modem stands for modulator demodulator. This modem can be attached to any laptop or PC for accessing the internet. Cable broadband These ISPs provide access to the internet via cables. DSL It stands for Digital subscriber line. It provides internet connectivity via telephone lines. Wireless broadband It is also known as Wi-fi. This type of network can be established through routers and cards. Routers transmit the internet signals to different devices. Type of network to be chosen:
Wi-fi networks or Wireless broadband should be used for the connection in this case due to following reasons:  Easily installed. Provides good bandwidth. Provides wireless connectivity. List of all the devices needed for establishing connection Router  Router is needed for providing internet connectivity to all the devices. Modem A modem is connected to the router. It sends the packets of data to the router. Home - Gateway It acts as a mediator between the modem and the router providing seamless connectivity. Role of different devices in the connection Modem Modem is used for providing internet access to the router. It should be connected to the router. It produces easily decodable signals. Router A router is the one which provides the signals to all the devices. We can install more routers to extend the range of the wi-fi network. It can connect networks of different types. One additional advantage of using a router is that it helps in reducing the network traffic. Home - Gateway Home-Gateway is used for connecting the modem to the router. It enables the modem to be connected and also provide internet and boost range for other wireless devices. Reference Internet Basics: How to Set Up a Wi-Fi Network. (n.d.).
