Hello Dr. G and class, My name is Vicky Caldwell; I am originally from Galena, Mo. I am 58 years of age and live in Yakima, WA and have three children and four grandchildren. My fiancé and I have been together for seventeen years, and he is a retired Air Force veteran. My education includes associate and bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Phoenix. A few years later, I studied Psychology at Ashford University, earning a master's degree. Then explored a master’s degree in criminal justice at the University of Arizona Global Campus, specializing in Forensic Science. I recently graduated with a master’s in information systems management specializing in project management with a GPA of 3.74. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in human services to accomplish my dream of helping to place homeless families, at-risk youths in Yakima, WA. My is to become a youth counselor or serve as a advocate. I enjoy learning new things and staying busy.   I am involved in a non-profit veteran organization called the Old Guard Riders. Our organization assists veterans in different ways, such as talking to and listening to their service experience. Our organization holds fundraisers such as barbeque, car washes, raffles, and selling wreaths for Wreaths Across America. Donations help all veterans, families, emergency response teams, police officers, and families in need. Our organization connects homeless veterans with proper resources for permanent or temporary housing. I am retired due to ADHD, ADD, PTSD, clinical depression, and social anxiety, so I volunteered at a youth center for special needs children and adolescents. I am a secretary for the Old Guards riders. I enjoy camping, fishing, walking in the woods, playing World of Warcraft, and watching horror flicks and psychological thrillers. I enjoy listening to different kinds of music.
The Human Services degree enables me to assist my sister in opening a center to help at-risk and LBGTQ youths. The center assists families, single parents, at-risk youths, and LBGTQ youths to have support and provide help in gaining multiple skills and information on available resources. Unfortunately, the number of at-risk kids living on the streets of Yakima, WA is a high percentage. Some live by themselves just wandering the streets all night and day, others live with their family in tents and there are other adults who are homeless that look out for the younger ones. The difference between mandatory and aspirational ethics are as follows: Mandatory ethics involves a minimum level of functioning at professional practice. Aspirational ethics focuses on doing what is in the best interest of your clients. The knowledge I gain in ORG 6520 will help me to learn the difference between mandatory ethics and aspirational ethics which focuses on the client’s needs versus the laws which will enables me to gain the experience required to do volunteer in my community effectively. I look forward to working with everyone.
