CHEVENING ESSAY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS 1. Leadership and influence Chevening is looking for individuals who will be future leaders or influencers in their home countries. Explain how you meet this requirement, using clear examples of your leadership and influencing skills to support your answer. (minimum word count: 100 words, maximum word count: 500 words) I believe I fit this criterion because I love to lead, especially when I am confident that I can complete the work at hand to the highest level of excellence. I am mostly thought of when someone for a leadership role is needed since I tend to influence others when I express my ideas. And when picked, I always fulfill my obligations. I've been nominated for so many leadership roles throughout my life because I have the imagination and the capacity to think creatively and unconventionally. One such prominent leadership role I held was in my Accra, Ghana-based church, Action Chapel. To prepare for a bible quiz, a group was formed, and the members accepted my nomination for the role of a group leader. After the church service, I organized meetings and made sure they were in order as part of my meticulous performance of my duties. Although some of the members were obstinate and refused to follow instructions, the group ultimately succeeded, and we went on to win the bible quiz competition. I worked as a course representative for the University of Education, Winneba - Kumasi's Information Technology Education program during the entire four years of my undergraduate studies (2018). I guided my friends through the rest of our course of study. It wasn't an easy challenge since some people disagreed with my judgments and sought to refute them, while other others were generally unhelpful. Knowing this, I was able to lead them by showing them the value of working as a team to support one another and make our time on campus successful. Even those who had been against me from the beginning commended me for the outstanding work I had done after our session. To sum up, I think I have what it takes to be termed a leader since I have shown it in all the roles I have had so far throughout my life. I am optimistic that the Chevening scholarship will further develop my leadership talents to greater heights when I return home because I know that with much devotion, I can become a better leader. I am confident and believe that the Chevening scholarship will further enhance my leadership skills to greater heights upon returning home - helping poor children feed and get quality education as I look forward to transitioning into a global leader.
2. Relationship-building and shared learning Chevening is looking for individuals with strong professional relationship-building skills, who will engage with the Chevening community and influence and lead others in their chosen profession. Please explain how you build and maintain relationships in a professional capacity, using clear examples of how you currently do this, and outline how you hope to use these skills in the future. (minimum word count: 100 words; maximum word count: 500 words) Building a solid network is, in my opinion, the most crucial component of our life, not just in terms of academics or jobs, but in all facets of living. In Ghana, where I am from, there is a proverb that goes, "It is not what you know, but whom you know." Simply put, this means that knowing the proper people can get you where understanding the correct things can't. As a result, we must develop solid business ties so that we can rely on them when needed. I used to be an introvert, usually staying to myself and not connecting with others until one day I came across an article that altered the way I interacted with others. The essay discussed how hiring the proper professional may propel my career to unthinkable heights. After reading the post, I had an immediate transformation, and my life changed forever. I didn't have many opportunities to establish professional connections until I entered a tertiary institution (University of Education – Winneba, Kumasi). To become close to as many professors as I could, I made sure to check in with them frequently and inquire about any tasks they needed to do. Additionally, I took use of the fact that I was interested in installing Microsoft Windows, Office programs, and other software on laptops to socialize with some of the lecturers. One lecturer in particular (Mr. Philip Boateng) liked me and phoned me whenever he had a laptop problem. Later, he hired me to tutor his children and assist with other responsibilities. He also assisted me with my scientific research projects while I was a student at the university. Second, after noticing how proactive I was, another lecturer (Dr. Adasa) from the University of Education in Winneba, Kumasi, started offering me career guidance on how to develop my professional résumé and gain new abilities. He assisted me in getting a full scholarship to study online for a BSc in cybersecurity at the University of Phoenix in Arizona. I also utilize social media platforms, particularly LinkedIn, to connect with like-minded individuals and widen my network of professional contacts. Using LinkedIn, I can network with people in my sector and other professions and learn about job prospects. For instance, when I was looking for a job, I came across a LinkedIn advertisement for the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST), which provides internal seed money to young people in Africa so they may launch a business to address a specific issue in their region. I gave it a shot and succeeded in the examinations and the online interview, but I was eliminated from consideration at the final interview. Despite not being selected, I gained a lot of experience and would attempt again in the future. There are several ways to use LinkedIn to create networks of individuals who share your interests.
3. Studying in the UK Outline why you have selected your chosen three university courses, and explain how this relates to your previous academic or professional experience and your plans for the future. Please enter new information and examples here and do not duplicate the information you have entered on the work experience and education section of this form (minimum word count: 100 words, maximum word count: 500 words) I am quite interested in information technology, so the courses I selected are all about technology. I developed a love of technology at a young age and have since been interested in electrical devices and how they work. Soon, I hope to get to the position of leading information technology specialist. Our nation is falling behind in terms of technology, and through these courses, I hope to have an impact on the IT industry. I will be studying Cyber Security and Forensics at the University of Westminster, London. The course will help me understand the nature of security threats that hackers pose to computer systems and networks. Since everything has now been revolutionized by technology, cybercrime is going to be on the rise. The MSc in Artificial Intelligence program at the Queen Mary University of London is my second pick. I choose this course because it will provide me with frequent practice with cutting-edge tools like Deep Neural Networks (DNN), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), and Deep Reinforcement Learning (Deep RL). I will explore the specialized practical and research abilities in each of the five AI areas, as well as the general machine learning technologies necessary for any AI job description. If properly used, artificial intelligence will also substantially assist my nation by being integrated into our payment systems, national identity cards, and traffic signals so that they can recognize certain vehicles, drivers, and even pedestrians. I intend to acquire all this knowledge from the United Kingdom because they deliver high-tech face-to-face lecturing with practical experience that will help me get a better understanding. Computer science (MSc) from the Birkbeck University of London is my third option. I choose this program because Birkbeck's Department of Computer Science and Information Systems is one of the UK's oldest computer departments. Birkbeck was ranked in the top 25 universities in the UK for its Computer Science and Informatics research in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework. They provide 24-hour access to several laboratories of networked PCs with a range of language compilers, databases, and other application software. We are connected, via the SuperJANET network, to the computers of other academic institutions in London, elsewhere in the UK, and abroad. Studying in the UK, among other academics, will benefit me and provide me with the opportunity to interact with people from a variety of backgrounds. My viewpoint will be widened by the chance to interact with lecturers, hear fresh ideas from them, and have cordial conversations with peers. In addition, having the chance to experience a new culture, learn about a fresh perspective on the world, and explore it will change my perspective as I advance in my job.

4. Career Plan Chevening is looking for individuals who have a clear post-study career plan. Please outline your immediate plans upon returning home and your longer-term career goals. You may wish to consider how these relate to what the UK government is doing in your country. (minimum word count: 100 words, maximum word count: 500 words) I'll look for opportunities to employ my new talents as soon as I get to Ghana. Since I attended the University of Education Winneba in Kumasi, my first point of contact in the first year would be to look for a position as a lecturer there. I will be able to teach undergrads studying information technology because of the information-related course I did in the UK. By doing this, I would have carried out one of my passions: educating the next generation. In keeping with the aforementioned idea of passing on information to the future generation, my next course of action while lecturing at the university would be to establish an IT educational facility with the express objective of instructing Information Technology to the approaching generations. For the younger generation to acquire a passion for technology before they grow up and be able to influence the country as a whole in terms of technology, it is necessary to teach them IT skills from a young age. My intermediate objectives include ultimately converting my IT educational facility into an NGO so that we can provide free IT training to kids and other interested parties. We will work with the government to promote access to IT education for all people. The healthcare system may gain from such facilities by enabling remote consultations for medical experts and expanding health education in rural regions. Overall, by making myself available to other not-for-profit organizations in distant locations where I feel my talents would be needed owing to a dearth of professionals in that field with a concentration on ICT, I will be putting my skills to good use. My long-term goal is to apply for a Ph.D. in cybersecurity after getting hands-on experience with all facets of the subject. This degree will be crucial to achieving my long-term objectives of becoming one of the nation's most creative information security experts and making the Internet a safer place for everyone.
