Communication Plan:
Communicating with families to keep them informed throughout the year is an important part of an educator’s job. I will discuss how I will communicate with my student’s families, and how technology can be incorporated in the communication process. As a fourth-grade team we have decided that for most communication we will utilize the app Class Dojo. Actually, our entire school uses this app to send out reminders and notifications for families! This app allows us to put events on a calendar and schedule for multiple notifications to go out. We can also send out mass group messages, or when necessary individual
messages for back-and-forth communication. I also enjoy talking to families in person, when possible, especially for things like parent teacher conferences. I as a parent myself, know how hard it can be to juggle working a full-time job and being able to get to my children’s school events. This is why I offer my families alternate ways to attend things like conferences or IEP meetings. I will always prefer to have a face-to-face meeting, but alternatives can be virtual meetings or phone calls. Invites can be sent via the communication app and also through email, but I also will usually send home a written message with the students. This may seem like a bit much but I want to ensure that families are informed.
In conclusion, to accommodate the needs of my student’s families, I will always offer various ways to communicate or meet with me. Having them as partners in their child’s education journey is of the utmost importance to me. So, I will provide multiple attempts at allowing families the opportunity to attend meetings, in the hopes of having them be as engaged with the school and learning process as possible.
