As humans, we rely on communication to complete simple tasks such as ordering food, school, and
paying bills which are just a few daily tasks that we normally partake in. However, there is one part of our vital communication that is more important than the language itself. I am talking about non-verbal communication; this form of communication is highly valuable and not only sets the tone of how the conversation will go but also how the information is comprehended. In this paper, the author will identify the importance of non-verbal communication.
Non-verbal communication refers to the broadcast of a message or information without the use of words. This type of communication involves the use of other means other than words; this type of communication is not using emails, text, or letters. Non-verbal communication is used in everyday life there
are several different types of non-verbal, these non-verbals include the following: “tone, body language, eye contact, emotions, facial expressions, gestures, and space” (Cherry,2023). Non-verbal communication is a priority in any conversation this is because it plays a vital role in how the message is conveyed. The tone of the language that is being conveyed can see the conversation in the wrong direction. For example, if a manager is conveying a message to a subordinate and is using an argumentive tone to talk about work, the staff member can become defensive, or the conversation can go downhill over s simple conversation mistake. This example shows us how the tone of voice needs to have the correct amount of pitch, and volume. The tone of a conversation can indicate the need for certain emotions, excitement, boredom, anger, or even sarcasm. The tone of the conversation is or can be the most important part of the conversation other than the actual message. Why, because if you are yelling in anger about giving that person a raise then that person is not going to receive the message in the same way. Non-verbal communication plays such a crucial
role in human interaction and can be often more powerful than the actual communication in the
conversation which also plays the same crucial role in conveying the feelings and attitudes of the conversation. The tone of the person conveying the message is not the only important part of the overall tone of the conversation. As the tone can influence the overall meaning of the conversation but the tone can also influence the expressions, gestures, and body language.
Tone can also be taken through nonverbal cues such as “facial expressions, body language, and gestures” (Smith, 2024). Understanding tone in nonverbal communication is vital for effective interpersonal communication, as it can significantly impact how a message is perceived and interpreted by others. During communication, it is estimated that only “7% of the conversation is based on the actual message, and 93% is
from the other parts like gestures, tone, eye contact, emotions facial expressions, and body language” (Mokhtari, 2013). The use of body language is a critical aspect of the non-verbal communication as it plays a role in conveying the message and which emotions to use in the conversation. Body language provides valuable insights into the thoughts, feelings, and attitudes. This can play into the revealing of the actual feelings and emotions that are behind the message that is in the conversation. With body language, the person’s posture and body movements are also a part of the language that someone will read while listening.
Though some may not use this body language others might, and that language is gestures or hand movements. Some people talk with their hands and these movements can through a conversation off the true meaning of what is being relayed. Facial expressions and emotions are another powerful form of body language that everyone has in a conversation. These cues convey a wide range of intentions without any words,
the human face is capable of producing thousands of different expressions through the facial muscles. These expressions can be understood through many different cultures, without the
