Week 3 DQ DQ 1 I work in a Pre-K classroom and we have a variety of different resources we use on our iPads and computers to help introduce phonics. We utilize these at an early age because kindergarten and first grade also utilize them for struggling readers or for extra assistance in teaching phonics. ABCmouse- This application allows for all different activities that allow the student to engage through songs and games while still engaging in the learning curriculum. ABCmouse is designed to have a customizable learning path and move as the child learns new skills so that they will never be stuck on the same concepts. Starfall- This application also allows for activities to engage and learn through play. Students are able to use a visual and auditory approach that teaches phonics. Each of the different activities allows the student to learn and move at their own pace, so they will always be learning different skills. DQ 2 A small group activity that can implement phonics for struggling learners would be to have a shaving cream table. At this table, the teacher would tell the students a letter or digraph to write with their finger in the shaving cream, and while they are writing it down they will make the corresponding sounds. This activity allows for a tactile approach to the skill and will help the student gain recognition and confidence in their reading and writing abilities.
