Important Tips for Congo River Basin Project Role-play If possible, we highly recommend you print your role instructions and the agreement worksheet (2 nd page of this document) to be able to easily reference them during the negotiation. This exercise introduces a scoring system to help you better understand your relative priorities among the issues and options. There is a helpful confidential summary of your “scores” for all potential options for all 5 issues near the end of your instruction packet (p. 9 for Dr. Beni, p. 10 for Dr. Campos)--please use this to compare the relative value to you of possible options within different issues. Note: Dr. Beni and Dr. Campos have each created their own system, using different metrics and scales ($ vs. research points), so you should not attempt to compare scores from one system to the other . Your reservation value (the lowest number of points for a package spanning the 5 issues that you would be willing to accept) is already given to you (p. 6 for Dr. Beni, p.7 for Dr. Campos). Please stick with the assigned issues and scores, and do not invent additional issues or scoring systems ; assume that the given scoring system represents your true preferences. For simplicity, please assume all issues are independent , i.e. the option chosen for one issue will not affect the value of potential options for another issue. You are welcome to make tradeoffs across issues, for example to make a concession on one issue in return for getting your preferred option on another issue. You may share as much or as little information as you wish with the other party, but you may not share your instructions with the other party at any time before or during the negotiation. This is not a math exercise, so DO NOT just trade numbers without discussing the issues and your priorities. Make sure you discuss the meaning, not just “option #1,” as the options are listed in a different order for each p arty . If you come to an agreement, you must jointly agree on a package including one option from within each of the five issues. ( note: the amount of funds allocated to each issue has already been determined and each option represents spending the full allocation for that issue-- you may not transfer funds from one issue area to another ). Good luck!
Congo River Basin Project Agreement Worksheet Please note: in order to have an agreement, you must jointly select one option from each of the different issue areas. The issues and options presented below may be listed in a different order than they appear in your confidential role instructions, so please read the description of each option carefully and make sure you and your counterpart(s) agree on one option for each issue before inputting your results into iDecisionGames.
