Assessment Task 1: Knowledge Questions Question 1 Explain the advantages and disadvantages of using the following estimation techniques to determine the duration of tasks and the required resources: a. Analogous estimating b. Bottom-up analysis c. Reserve analysis. (approx. 60 words) Answer Name of the tech add ( 2) Disadvantages ( 2) Analogous estimating Quick and easy to perform Highly reliant on the accuracy of historical data Useful when there’s limited project information available May not account for unique project characteristics Bottom- up analysis Provides detailed and accurate estimates Time- consuming and resource-intensive Accounts for specific tasks and resources Requires a comprehensive understanding of the project scope Reserve analysis Helps in identifying and managing uncertainties Can lead to overestimation of resources and time Provides a buffer for unforeseen events May increase project cost with out clear benefits Question 2 Explain how you would identify the critical path within a project schedule. (approx. 50 words) Answer A project schedule will impact on the actual project activities so these dependencies should still be reflected on external dependencies which are outside of the project and the team´s control:there not part of the project activities. However you can use project schedule in gantt chart that shows you what has to be done within your project and when it needs to be done by. Question 3 What are the primary reference points for setting a project baseline? Answer Your scope baseline is your approved project scope. 2. Your WBS 3. Your WBS dictionary. Question 4 Explain what a variance table is and how it can be used in relation to the project baseline. (approx. 50 words) Answer Your schedule network analysis may include network diagrams to provide a graphical view of activities and how they relate to one another. These will displayed using either PERT or Gantt chart. By tracking your project and looking at your planned estimates against the actual progress, the schedule baseline can then be used to identify any variances. You should compare your baseline estimates to the actual status of your project. Question 5 Identify the four (4) phases of a project lifecycle and explain what each phase means or involves? Answer A mandatory dependency is a project activity that must be carried out at a particular time within the project’s life cycle. The nature of your project will dictate the order in which some activities should be performed. Mandatory dependencies may be requirements of the project’s contract, physical limitations or the laws that are in place. It has various fases 1. Finish to start 2. Stat to start 3. Finish to finish 4. Start to finish Question 6 Outline what is meant by the following time management methodologies. For each, how would you use it and explain its advantages and disadvantages. a. Activity log b. Action plan c. Task list. Answer Name of the tec Ad Dis Activity log Identify most productive times of day Can be time consuming to mantain Analyse how you spend your time May not capture all activities accurately Identify what tasks are taking too long Requires discipline to consistently update 4 | P a g e
Action plan Help you to organize to complete more efficiency your tasks May requires frequent updates as circumstances change Differs by listing the tasks in the order that they need to be completed Can become overly detailed or rigid, hindering flexiblility Task list Allows you to have a more effectively plan increasing project productivity May become overwhelming if the list grows too long Allows you to help with a whole range of other planning activities such as time and cost budgeting Risk of neglecting important tasks if not regularly reviewed Question 7 Explain how the following project scheduling tools and techniques function: a. PERT chart b. Gantt chart c. Critical path diagram Answer Tabla again Pert: A PERT chart can be used to schedule, organise and coordinate the tasks within a project. Using a network diagram, it presents a graphic illustration of a project. Gantt: A Gantt chart is a visual representation of a project schedule that shows you what has to be done within your project and when it needs to be done by. By laying out the project tasks and events in the order they should be completed in, the Gantt chart helps to sequence those events and tasks. It will show the project activities displayed against time and the time is broken down into increments; days, weeks or months. Critical Path Schedule: A CPS identifies the longest path throughout your project and can help to determine the shortest possible time in which all activities within your plan can be completed. If a task within your critical path is delayed; this will delay your entire project. Question 8 What is a WBS and how can it be applied to project schedule? Answer A Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is a tool used within project management that aims to capture the project tasks in a visual, organised manner. The development of the WBS normally occurs at the start of a project and a completed WBS will resemble a flowchart. If a project ever falls behind, the WBS is usually referred to as it is thought of as the map of the whole project. After your project is completed, your WBS can provide you with data for performance measurement. 5 | P a g e
