Please complete the following steps for your discussion post and response. This week we are discussing Microbiology, Immunology, and Blood Bank. Please answer all the following questions on what you will do to make sure you are a successful medical assistant. As a medical assistant, explain the importance of knowing the types different types of germs that can make a human ill? Explain one item that you learned this week that you had no prior knowledge on and what you feel was the most important about this item What have you learned from the P.R.I.C.E Model of Success that you feel will be important when assisting or educating your patients with Microbiology, Immunology, and Blood Bank in your office and explain why? In your opinion, what is the most important takeaway that was presented in this unit’s material and how will it relate to your career as a medical assistant? Please pose a question to your classmates that you feel will enhance this unit’s learning. Please review post and response expectations. Please review the rubric to ensure that your response meets criteria. Estimated time to complete: 2 hours As a medical assistant, knowing these different types of germs is essential because they can make humans ill. Knowing how they are spread helps keep humans from spreading or letting the germs into our bodies. Another reason for having this knowledge is to help us treat the pathogen properly. Without treatment, things like an epidemic, pandemic, and death can occur. Learning about the different staining techniques to identify the pathogens was something I knew happened in the lab but didn’t know much about. I thought it was just one stain that helped identify each pathogen. It never occurred to me that some bacteria needed a specific stain (Brigitte Niedzwiecki MSN & Julie Pepper BS, 2022). I now understand why there are different techniques for testing. This knowledge will be helpful when explaining what test is being taken and what to expect next. Infection control is one of the top reasons for educating patients in microbiology, immunology, and, potentially, blood bank. This understanding reflects what I’ve learned from the P.R.I.C.E. Model of Success. Engaging with my patients and sharing information about why it’s important to wash your hands, seeking care when you are unwell, and accurately taking and completing their antibiotics are examples of why. The most important takeaway from this unit was the transmission of pathogens. Keeping my patients and me healthy is of the utmost importance. Knowing how to stop the transmission reduces the chance of me and my patients getting these pathogens. Being a medical assistant, I will need to wear proper PPE. The correct PPE helps reduce the spread. Which pathogen scares you the most?
