The artifact is a short film called Happiness. Humans are depicted by rats in a large city, which is most likely supposed to depict New York. It shows them working 9-5 jobs, participating in Black Friday, taking the subway, and overall, them being miserable because of these jobs. The short film shows the rats looking for happiness which in this case is material items that only cause happiness for a short amount of time. It depicts what humans do with not only material items but drugs and alcohol as well, looking for a quick fix to distract them from their miserable life. It ends showing them in rat traps at their desks being forced to continue working. Humans have a hypothetical “rat trap” that keeps us working these jobs we hate to survive and using quick fixes as a temporary solution. The rhetorical situation the author is responding to is the social structure we have set up where humans become miserable working their 9-5 jobs with somewhat useless degrees. The audience here would be the working class who has a 9-5 job. Some constraints within the genre would be that because it’s a short film, and less than 5 minutes long, it might not be able to depict everything.
