Literacy is defined as the ability to read, write, speak, and listen which gives one the ability to effectively communicate with one another. Literacy education starts early in children. What are the Common Core State Standards Analyzing the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), it was developed so that all students are given the opportunity to receive a high-quality education. The expectation on students from the standards are to to read and comprehend stories and apply their understanding to answering questions that makes them refer back to the text. The standards pushes students to: • Think critically • Problem-solve • Apply analytical skills School districts align their curriculums to the CCSS. The standards forces teachers to take responsibility for developing and producing lessons that are aligned with the curriculum and rigorous course work that assist students in becoming prepared for college and future careers. Students’ literacy skills will improve and become proficient because of the CCSS.
