Chicano Week 6 Quiz 1.
How did Rosie Guajardo’s story impact you?
I was greatly affected by Rosie Guajardo's story after learning about it. I can connect to it
in many ways, having gone through similar experiences. It was a really enlightening and uplifting narrative. Following her virtual expulsion from her own land to make way for a stadium, Rosie encountered a tremendous deal of prejudice toward her culture. She created art that echoed the current media, demonstrating that prejudice would never eradicate her culture's values. This had a huge influence on me because I also used to experience discrimination and mistreatment because of my ethnic background.I learned from Rosie's narrative that I could overcome these challenges and find methods to express myself and motivate others.

What do you think about the Coco film controversy?
When I was younger, I loved watching the film Coco with my siblings but it was until the last lecture that we had, where I found it that there was controversy. It is known that Disney Productions persistently attempted to trademark Dia de los Muertos on products like toys and other items. In my opinion, I think that since it is effectively mocking the customs and cultural significance of this event, I believe this to not be fair to the people celebrating it. I believe that they culturally stole the Day of the Dead in a way that made money off of it rather than merely celebrating and educating others about the festival because it is such a sacred tradition to their people. I think that trying to profit off a holiday that so many people consider sacred was incredibly rude and inconsiderate.
3.What does Amalia Mesa Baines say about the purpose of Ofrendas? How did you experience setting your Ofrenda?
In particular, Amalia Mesa Baines has a highly religious meaning for Ofrendas. She believes that recovering loved ones' cultural memories and raising knowledge of Ofrendas are the two main goals of the holiday. According to her, it preserves a feeling of belonging within the
culture and passes down the histories from one generation to the next. She makes a strong case for the significance of the Day of the Dead tradition in helping us remember our loved ones
for eternity. Regarding my Ofrendas, I believe it was a very unique and special experience. It was really significant to me to witness another culture's method of honoring their loved ones because this holiday is not observed in my own culture. I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to study more about this tradition and custom.
