The Quiet Place is based on a family trying to service a post apocalyptic alien invasion. The aliens are an inhabited by blind extraterrestrial creatures with an acute sense of hearing and do not like noise and will kill anyone that makes a sound. The Abbott family consists of Lee (father), Evelyn (mother), Reagan (oldest daughter), Marcus (middle child), and Beau (youngest child, also deceased). Every family has their issues, the little brother passed away to the aliens when they were traveling to get some supplies. Cade wanted a toy truck but the dad told him no because it still made noises. Reagan gave him the toy anyway but took out the batteries. Beau takes the batteries and while they were on the way back to the farm he pressed the button and the
truck made a sound. A nearby alien heard the noise and killed Beau. The Abbott family survives on their farm in an underground barn after the invasion to have more freedom to make noise. Evelyn was also several months pregnant with another child so they had to live underground for when she had the baby. They have to communicate through sign language but it’s not a difficult task due to Reagan being deaf. Another way they have survived by taking precautions such as laying sand paths to avoid stepping on crunching leaves. Regan, realizing the weakness the creature had to the high-pitched noise from her cochlear implant, proceeds to remove her implant and place it on a microphone, amplifying the high-
pitched noise that causes the creature to reel in pain and expose its soft vulnerable inner mouth, allowing Evelyn to shoot it dead. In the movie A Quiet Place we see the core anthropological concepts of assimilation, kinship, and, acculturation. The first concept is assimilation. Assimilation is the process whereby individuals or groups of people from one culture are absorbed into and changed by another culture.
