The truth about Evolution The debate between evolution and religion has been an ongoing battle between scientists and religionists for several years, causing more confusion to ideas we are already confused by. These two are separate areas that deal with similar ideas but in entirely different ways. They can successfully coexist if they are not always put up against each other. Evolution refers to the changes in the characteristics of species across millions of generations. This is a connecting factor between religion and science as the debate circles around whether evolution exists, or existence is mainly based on supernatural factors. Evolution is an important aspect of science that serves as a building block for several aspects of science. It helps us explain and understand why there are different species of the same creature existing. Evolution also explains why there are similarities, differences and even anomalies in nature. Scientists have been able to research to elaborate on confusing aspects of theories developed due to discoveries made through evolution. Science, which is the use of evidence to construct testable explanations and predictions of natural phenomena deal with facts, evidence and natural occurrences. With the help of science, several important discoveries have been made. This is evidence that discoveries made by science are based on in-depth research. Due to several series of tests and through the help of technology, scientists have been able to understand the elements that makeup humans to the smallest unit we could ever imagine. DNA which was discovered in the 20th century is understood to be the building block of life that constitutes the makeup of all living organisms. Despite its similarity among similar species, it is different for every living thing. Changes in DNA referred to as mutations help to understand what causes evolution. These changes could either be beneficial or harmful. In terms of being beneficial, species with more advantageous traits tend to be the only ones that make it past a generation. This is called natural selection, as it is based on a consequence of the features of the environment. When these mutation
changes are harmful, the species affected are less likely to make it to the next generation, explaining why so many creatures have gone extinct and scientists present discoveries of creatures that existed millions of years ago. Scientists have been able to apply their discoveries in several fields as the knowledge of science knows no bounds. These discoveries are not just solely based on biological sciences but also different fields like anthropology, geology, physics, and many more scientific disciplines including behavioural and social sciences. They have in one way or the other contributed to the discoveries about the world, and as expected there are still many questions left unanswered as research is still ongoing. These discoveries are based on natural phenomena and empirical evidence as there would be nothing to test on if there is nothing to see. It is so easy to say evolution exists, but without evidence that it does, these ideas would only be taken with a pinch of salt. These different aspects of science that contribute to the research of evolution has also been able to provide valid evidence that evolution exists. A good example would be the discovery of the planet earth. Due to research, these scientists have been able to understand how the earth came into existence and how life on earth is possible for humans. Earth as we know it is a massive planet on which we live, but to these scientists, it has several underlying happenings that occurred for it to be habitable. The Big Bang theory is an event in which the entire universe originated from, where all the energy and matter in life were compressed as an infinitely hot object. Due to expansion that occurred millions of years ago, the universe began to cool down, then inflated into the world as we know it today. The study of the universe is such a complex aspect that research is still being done to explain how various aspects of the world are. As stated earlier, evolution is an ongoing process, and with the learning nature of science, any scientist can present new ideas in later years that refutes or adds to what a former scientist has presented due to the latest discoveries that might be made.
As expected, there would always be a part of the population that does not agree with certain ideas. Such in this aspect is a creationist. A creationist is someone who rejects natural scientific explanations of the known universe in favour of special creation by a supernatural entity. Contrary to popular belief, a creationist is very different from a Christian as a Christian base his belief on what is stated in the bible. For every idea presented by a scientist, a creationist would always have a certain explanation, although some do not entirely add up to how the world could be. They believe the theory of evolution is hypothetical as no one has ever seen evolution occur, but the irony of the statement is that no one has ever seen a supernatural being, yet they believe its existence. In every aspect of life, criticism is to be expected. As stated earlier, science and religion are two separate entities, raising them against each other would only lead to more confusion. It would be beneficial to the environment if both sectors are recognized in their forms and understood separately. Despite the arguments made by leaders in both sectors, both in each their ways contributes to an integral part of life. Evolution is an important aspect of life that needs to be understood. Through evolution, we have been able to understand several aspects of the world today and in various ways made it better. Understanding and acceptance of evolution would help proper planning for the future and make life easier for other generations to come as it would help in the understanding of the problems of different aspects of life and how it can be fixed. Strategy The paper “Evolution and Criticism” was a long discussion that emphasized the existence of evolution and its discoveries. Reading through the paper, a lot of specific examples confirming the existence of evolution were given, which would not be easily understood by an average reader. Adding that to this article would cause further confusion to the reader and digression from the main point, causing the reader to lose interest. I was able to pick out important and concise ideas that specifically talked about
