ASB 300: Food and Culture Assignment #4: Final Course Reflection Name (as it appears on Canvas): Part 1. Feeding Ourselves, Feeding Our Revolutions Essay For this essay, you are being asked to read the article “Cooking Stirs the Pot for Social Change,” by Korsha Wilson and respond to the following writing prompt developed by YES! Magazine: “If you were to host a potluck or dinner to discuss a challenge facing your community or country, what food would you cook? Whom would you invite? On what issue would you deliberate?” In a well-organized and thoughtful essay response, you need to address all three parts of the prompt (what food would you cook, who would you invite to the dinner, and what issue would you discuss) and clearly link each component (why is the food you are cooking appropriate to the issue you are discussing and the people you are inviting and why are the people you are inviting appropriate to the issue you are discussing). Additionally, the social issue you select needs to be well described with a justification for why this social issue is one of relevance and concern. The response to the prompt, which should be formatted as a 500-750 word essay (i.e. with a clear thesis statement, an introduction, body, and conclusion, and in paragraph form), should be inserted below .
Part 2. Course Reflection In the second part of this assignment, are you being asked to provide a critical reflection of your experiences in this class. In your reflection, you need to consider what you had hope to learn from this course and what you actually learned. Please revisit the learning objectives for the course and reflect on whether or not you think you achieved these objectives. Why or why not? Overall, what did you learn about food and culture from this course? What did you learn about yourself in relation to these topic? How has this course changed your perspectives in any way (and if so, in what ways)? Did what you learn in this class confirm your previous knowledge or challenge your perspectives in some way? Were you surprised, supported, confused, or unnerved in any way? Why? What were some of the most interesting or powerful learning moments for you in the course and what made them so? Finally, while a reflection is a look back, it is also a look forward, so how will you use what you learned in this class in the future? For example, what actions might you take as a result of your learned or how can you apply what you learned in other courses or in your future profession? As above, your response should be formatted as an essay response with a clear thesis statement, an introduction, body, and conclusion, and be written in paragraph form. The reflection should be 300-500 words. References All sources used for this assignment must be listed here. You are required to use an established citation format (e.g. APA, MLA, Chicago, etc). Each reference here must have a corresponding in-text citation as all factual claims made above need to be accompanied by a citation showing the source of that information. There is no formal requirement for types of sources that must be cited but for anything that isn’t common knowledge, citations should be provided. Additionally, the course reflection will likely require you to properly cite several course sources.
