Chapter 8, Problem 8.1P

Describe the proper procedure for transporting a total station instrument in the field.

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
To determine

The proper procedure for transporting a total station instrument in the field.

Explanation of Solution

For surveying a given plot the instrument is moved from one station to other station for collection of required data and for accuracy. For any instrument care should be taken while handling it.

Proper handling and care should be taken while moving the instrument as mishandling may cause damage to the instrument and may cause inaccuracy of calculation.

The following steps are to be followed for transporting a total station instrument in the field:

  1. For moving from one station to other first mark a temporary mark which is used for centering.
  2. Even for a very small distance a total station should be carried in a locked hard case.
  3. Do not remove the total station from the hard case till the tripod is fixed firmly on the ground.
  4. A total station should not be carried on the tripod except for centering.
  5. A total station should be handled with both hands.
  6. Total station handle should not be removed till the tripod’s fixing screw is fixed.
  7. Care should be taken that the tripod is fixed as firmly as possible.
  8. Always make sure the parts of the total station such as top of the tripod, bottom and top of tribarch and bottom of total station is clean and away from shock.
  9. Care should be taken while removing a tribarch from the total station.

A1.4- Determine the factored moment resistance for the flanged beam (simply supported) shown in Figure 4. Given: Beam span L = 8m fc = 25MPa fy=400MPa As = 3-35M *350* mm 1.5 m Figure 4 *350* mm -60mm
A2.3- a simply supported reinforced concrete beam of rectangular cross-section is shown in Figure 3. The beam supports a uniform dead load of 20 kN/m (excluding the beam self-weight) and a uniform live load of 20 kN/m. The beam width is restricted to 400 mm. The maximum aggregate size is 20 mm. We are using 10M bars for stirrups and 25M bars for tension steel. Concrete is type N with f'c = 35 MPa and fy = 400 MPa. The beam needs to have 2hr fire rating. Design the beam for the given load, considering the reinforcement ratio p < 0.5 pb Figure 3 WDL = 20 kN/m WLL= 20 kN/m 8.0 m
