List the types of metal that a plasma torch can be used to cut.

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
To determine

The metals that are used to cut with plasma torch.

Explanation of Solution

Plasma is used as plasma welding as well as plasma cutting process. Plasma cutting is used to cut the metal without too much heat that will give distortion free cutting. This process can be used to cut thin metal sheet without any distortion or deflection. Plasma cutting machine is easy and portable to use as compare to oxyacetylene. This process is also very cheap process to cut the metal. Plasma machine can cut any type of metals such as:

  1. Stainless steel.
  2. Aluminum.
  3. Mild steel (4 mm to 150 mm thick).
  4. Stainless steel.
  5. Cast iron.

A boiler with 80% efficiency produces steam at 40bar and 500 C at a rate of 1.128kg/s. The temperature of the feed water is raised from 25 C to 125 C in the economizer and the ambient air is drawn to the boiler at a rate of 2.70 kg/s at 16 C. The flue gases leave the chimney at rate of 3 kg/s at 150 C with specific heat of 1.01 kJ/kg.K. The dryness fraction of steam collected in the steam drum is 0.95. 1- Determine the heat value of the fuel. 2- The equivalence evaporation. 3- Draw the heat balance sheet.
