Drug Testing A new drug is being tested on laboratory mice. The mice have been given a disease for which the recovery rate is 1/2.
(a) In the first experiment, the drug is given to five of the mice and all five recover. Find the probability that the success of this experiment was due to luck. That is, find the probability that five out of five mice recover in the event that the drug has no effect on the illness.
(b) In a second experiment, the drug is given to 25 mice and 18 recover. Find the probability that 18 or more recover in the event that the drug has no effect on the illness.
