Normal Curve: Tree Rings Tree-ring dates were used extensively in archaeological studies at Burnt Mesa Pueblo (Bandelier Archaeological Excavation Project: Summer 1989 Excavations at Burnt Mesa Pueblo, edited by Kohler, Washington State University Department of Anthropology). At one site on the mesa, tree-ring dates (for many samples) gave a mean date of μ1 = year 1272 with standard deviation σ1 = 35 years. At a second, removed site, the tree-ring dates gave a mean of μ2 = year 1122 with standard deviation σ2 = 40 years. Assume that both sites had dates that were approximately
- (a) Convert both x1 and x2 to z values, and locate both of these values under the standard normal curve of Figure 6-15.
- (b) Interpretation Which of these two items is the more unusual as an archaeological find in its location?

The management think that the mean is changed. Therefore, a random sample of 67 is chosen that shows the average is 11 and the standard devlation is 12. Use 0.02 significance level to test this claim. Based on the above, the test statistic is equal to? (Round answer to two decimal places ex. 2.09)arrow_forwardPlease help me answer this question? - Let us suppose we have some article reported on a study of potential sources of injury to equine veterinarians conducted at a university veterinary hospital. Forces on the hand were measured for several common activities that veterinarians engage in when examining or treating horses. We will consider the forces on the hands for two tasks, lifting and using ultrasound. Assume that both sample sizes are 6, the sample mean force for lifting was 6.0 pounds with standard deviation 1.4 pounds, and the sample mean force for using ultrasound was 6.2 pounds with standard deviation 0.3 pounds. Assume that the standard deviations are known. X Your answer is incorrect. Find a 95% confidence interval on the difference in mean force on the hands for the two activities. Round your answers to two decimal places (e.g. 98.76). i -1.58arrow_forwardQUESTION 17 A minimum mileage guarantee on the tires of a tire manufacturing company is being considered to be set. When the company conducted many tire tests, it revealed that the mean mileage has a normal distribution with mean 4,103 and standard deviation 102. The tire manufacturer wants to set the minimum guaranteed mileage so that no more than 2.5 percent of tires will have to be exchanged. Calculate the Lower limit of guaranteed mileage? They were interested in comparing the abundance Southern knob-tail geckos (Nephrurus stellatus) between these two habitats and so calculated the relative abundance of this species found at each trap. Based on the output below, what would be the most correct conclusion to draw about these data? The lake is famous for cutthroat trout. Suppose a friend tells you that the average length of trout caught in the Pyramid Lake is µ = 19 inches. However the Creel Survey (published by the Pyramid Paiute Tribe Fisheries Association] reported that a random sample of 51 fish caught, the mean length was = 18.5 inches, with estimated population standard deviation σ = 3.2 inches. Do these data indicate that the average length of a trout caught in Pyramid Lake is less than µ =19 inches? Use α = 0.05arrow_forwardQuestion 3: give the test statistic arrow_forwardQuestion 1 1. Which IAT data set are you working with? 2. 3. Use StatCrunch and your unique IAT sample to estimate the mean age for the population of IAT participants at the 90% confidence level. Copy the contents of your StatCrunch output window and paste them into your response. (No need to type anything here - just copy and paste the contents of your StatCrunch output window.) Are conditions met to estimate the mean age for the population of IAT participants? (Be sure to support your answer as demonstrated throughout Unit 8.) 4. State the confidence interval, and then interpret the confidence interval in context. 5. What is the margin of error (MOE)? 6. Which would be more accurate, the 90% confidence interval you found or an 85% confidence interval? Briefly explain. Which would be more precise? Briefly explain.
