Concept introduction:

Bryophytes have various different characteristic present in their body forms that classify them into three different classes: liverwort, hornworts and Musci. Bryology is the branch of sciences which deals with the study of the Bryophytes. More than 26,000 different species of bryophytes are present in the world. Bryophytes are small in size and they are one of the biggest and largest groups of plants. Bryophytes as they lack xylem (which help them to transport of water and nutrients in long distances) makes them different from other plants known as the “tracheophytes”. Bryophytes and vascular plants also differ as the dominant gametophytic stage in present in bryophytes.
