Chapter 28, Problem 1R

What groups have developed electrode identification systems?

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
To determine

Groups that have developed identification systems for electrode.

Explanation of Solution

Filler metals must be used on the basis of identification system. There is not any fixed identification system. Manufacturers may use own identification system, color code, trade name and numbering system. The most famous and widely used identification systems for filler are American society for testing and Materials (ASTM), American welding society (AWS) and the American iron and steel institute (AISI). Some manufactures go with AWS system. Some manufactures go with both AWS system and own identification system.

Conclusion:

Thus, AWS, ASTM and AISI are the groups that have developed identification systems for electrode.
