In the environment, a wide variety of nitrogen is present in a variety of chemical forms. This includes nitrite (NO2), organic nitrogen (N), nitrous oxide (N2O), ammonia (NH4+), nitric oxide (NO) or inorganic nitrogen gas (N2), and nitrate (NO3).
Explanation of Solution
Denitrification: It is an anaerobic process in which nitrogen gas is generated from nitrate.
Anammox: It is also an anaerobic process in which nitrogen gas is generated, but ammonia is oxidized by using nitrite as the terminal electron acceptor.
