Summary Introduction

To review:

The role of each organ of the urinary system.

Introduction:

Body cells perform metabolic activities and produce waste products like urea, carbon dioxide, and uric acid. The waste products are eliminated from the body via respiratory system and urinary system.

Explanation of Solution

The urinary system is made up of the organs such as

1. Kidneys: Urinary system consists of two kidneys. The primary function of kidney is to filter out wastes from the blood and excrete waste products through urine. Kidney also functions in regulating blood composition, pH, volume, and pressure. Their main function is to maintain blood osmolarity and produce hormones, such as calcitriol and erythropoietin.

2. Ureter: It is the passage, through which urine from the kidney reaches to the urinary bladder for storage till elimination. There are two ureters.

3. Urinary bladder: It is the storage organ that stores urine before its expulsion into the ureters.

4. Urethra: Urethra is the organ, through which urine is excreted from the body.

Conclusion

Thus, urinary system is made up of two kidneys, one urinary bladder, two ureters, and one urethra. The overall function of urinary system is to get body rid of toxic waste products like urea and uric acid in the form of urine.

Overview of Transformation Protocol   -Prepare competent bacteria for transformation: Treat starter E. coli bacteria with CaCl2and Competent Cell Solution (CCS). Store on ice until transformation procedure. Competent cells are cells that are likely to take up foreign DNA and be transformed. This step increases the likelihood that the E. coli cells will take up the introduced vector and be transformed. -Transformation procedure: Obtain two microcentrifuge tubes containing your competent cells. Label one tube +DNA and one -DNA. Add CaCl2 to both tubes. Add the transformation mix containing the plasmid DNA to the tube labeled +DNA. Do not add any plasmid DNA to the -DNA tube. Incubate both tubes on ice for 10 minutes. Then, place both tubes in a 42\deg C water bath for 45 seconds. Replace the tubes in an ice bucket for 2 minutes. Add recovery broth to both tubes. Incubate both tubes in a 37 C water bath for 5 minutes.   Questions: 1)What is the selectable marker in this experiment? How…
