What types of coolant are used in vehicles?

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
To determine

Write the types of coolants used in vehicles.

Explanation of Solution

Coolant:

Coolant is used to transfer heat from the engine to the radiator in the cooling system. It is also used to prevent corrosion or rusting of the engine and the cooling systems. It mainly prevents freezing during cold seasons.

Coolant is referred as a combination of water and antifreeze. Water has the ability to absorb more heat per gallon when compared to other liquid coolant. Most coolants are provided with corrosion and rust inhibitors to prevent metals in the cooling systems and engine.

The types of coolants that are used in vehicles are as follows:

  • Organic acid technology (OAT).
  • Inorganic acid technology (IAT).
  • Hybrid organic acid technology (HOAT).
  • Phosphate hybrid organic acid technology (PHOAT).
