Concept Introduction:

Lithium diorganocuprates are known as Gilman reagents.

Reaction of an alkyl halide with a lithium dialkylcuprate results in the formation of a new carbon-carbon bond between the alkyl group of the halide and that of the cuprate.

When the two alkyl groups that are joined from the two reactants are different, the reaction is known as cross-coupling.
