Explain the road from the first partition to the second partition of Bengal, 1905 - 1947 by Considering the different forces and organizations in Bengali society, the political parties, religious/communal groups and economic interests who were ranged against each on the issue and fate of Bengal.
Bengal was an economic and educational hub during British rule. The partition of Bengal was announced by Lord Curzon, the Viceroy of India. Bengal was divided into two new provinces for administrative reasons. However, from the religious demography of the newly created parts, it was clear that the British wanted to disrupt the unity of Bengal by dividing it along communal lines. The Bengali leaders saw this and started protesting against the partition. The British attempted to divide, and the rule was met with heavy resistance. The partition also gave a stimulus to militant nationalism in Bengal and surrounding areas. Many revolutionary activities were carried on by members of Anushilam Samiti, Jugantar.
