The Axial Age, also known as the Axis Age, began roughly around the same time over the bulk of the inhabited world as the major philosophical and religious systems that would later influence human civilization and culture.  Greek philosophers from antiquity, Indian meta-physicians and logicians (who articulated the main traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism), Persian Zoroastrians, Hebrew Prophets, and the "Hundred Schools," most notably These are only a few of the Axial customs that developed and spread throughout that time. The phrase was first used by the German philosopher and psychiatrist Karl Jaspers, who saw that there was a movement away from transcendence and toward more grounded experiences at the time.
