Jeffery Alan Grey hypothesized two mechanisms involved in controlling the interactions between an individual and his environment. These brain-based systems involve; Behavioral activation system (BAS) and Behavioral inhibition system (BIS).
- The behavioral activation system is sensitive to rewards and approach motivation, it is aroused when an individual receives cues from their environment that they will accomplish a reward on exhibiting a particular behavior. After receiving the cue for a reward, people tend to work hard in order to achieve it.
- The behavioral Inhibition system is sensitive to punishment and regulates avoidance motivation, it is aroused when an individual receives anxiety-related cues from their environment that they will accomplish a punishment or frustration on exhibiting a particular behavior. After receiving the cue for anxiety or punishment, people tend to reflect on avoidance motivation in order to avoid boredom, punishment, or any negative situation.
The two hemispheres at each side of the brain work in coordinating movements and muscle functions and other functions such as thoughts, feelings, speech, and learning on the opposite side of the body. The left hemisphere controls the functioning of the muscles on the right side of the body and the right hemisphere controls the movements on the left side of the body. For complex functioning and physical coordination, both hemispheres need to work together, the information is exchanged among the two hemispheres through the set of axons known as the corpus callosum.
Correct option: b) Left hemisphere
The left hemisphere is mainly responsible for regulating comprehension, speech, writing, and logical processing. The left hemisphere is most dominant in the usage of hands and language. It performs different functions related to emotion regulation. The brain region frontal and temporal areas localized in the left hemisphere are associated with the activation of behavioral responses such as the tendency to approach, these areas regulate the behavioral activation system. These regions stimulate low to moderate arousals, which reflect happiness or anger.
