How suicide rate of men and woman differ?

Expert Solution
Introduction

Suicide refers to the death that is caused by self-directed harmful behavior with the intention of dying from harmful behavior. There might be different processes or methods that lead to suicide. A suicide attempt refers to a non-fatal, potentially injurious self-directed behavior with the intention of dying but a suicide attempt may or may not cause injury. On the other hand, suicidal ideation refers to considering or planning to commit suicide.
Suicidal behavior refers to either talking about taking one's own life or taking certain actions that sign taking one's life and such behaviors are supposed to be considered a psychiatric emergency. The risk factors that increase the likelihood of committing suicide are as follows:

  • The individual has attempted to commit suicide before.
  • The individual overuses or abuses alcohol or drugs.
  • The individual is diagnosed with a mental disorder, depression, or mood disorder in particular.
  • The individual has access to weapons or other means of harming themselves.
  • The individual knows someone who has died by committing suicide.
  • The individual is suffering from a chronic or terminal disease.
  • The individual does not have access to mental healthcare.
