When the US entered the war in 1917 it needed it needed aptitude testing for thousands of its recruits. Walter Scott a pupil of Wundt was recruited for this. By the end of the war the army had employed more than 7000 specialists who had assessed and hired more than 3,000,000 men. Robert Yerkes, then president of the APA developed tests so that the mentally unfit were not recruited by the Army. Army Alpha was developed for literates and Army Beta for illiterates. These tests were akin to assessing the IQ and Mental age for recruits. These tests helped in assessing more than 1.7 million recruits and paved the future for IQ assessment.
