Define Maya Glyphs
Maya script, also called Maya glyphs, was the writing of the Maya civilization of Mesoamerica and is that the only Mesoamerican writing that has been considerably deciphered. The untimely inscriptions found which are distinguishable Maya date to the 3rd century BCE in San Bartolo, Guatemala. Maya inscribing was in continuous use through Mesoamerica till the Spanish conquering of the Maya within the 16th and 17th centuries.
Maya inscriptions used logograms accompanied with a group of syllabic glyphs, somewhat indistinguishable in function to modern Japanese writing. Maya writing was erroneously called "hieroglyphics" or hieroglyphs by early European explorers of the 18th and 19th centuries who found its widespread aspect paying homage to Egyptian hieroglyphs, although the 2 systems are discrete.
Modern Mayan languages are written using the Latin alphabet instead of Maya script.
