Hello everyone, My name is Mercy, I am working on receiving my bachelor’s in social work with a concentration in Adolescent Development. I am a mother of two beautiful daughters, I have three cats and a dog. I am currently engaged to be married in September of 2024. One direct way in which children their own acculturation is by peer watching and engagement. Children need peer contact to feed them with the social skills that are essential to their development. When children are not introduced to these interactions, there is no direction in how they learn these required skills that help overcome challenges they will face. Interaction with peers makes it easier for children to understand which habits are appropriate, which are not, and how to obey rules and laws. An indication of a child having a direct effect on their own acculturation may be to follow or join a “click” or “group” even if they believe the behavior of the community could be incorrect, may adversely influence them. The indirect way a child may influence his or her own acculturation is through their communities. Children are born into a societal environment that has already developed their own beliefs. These beliefs, which are already part of their society, state what is appropriate and what is not; this is how children communicate with peers. Once children reach a certain age, they begin to partake in peer relationships, while encountering emotional struggles on their hands. They often struggle with the need to uphold their cultural beliefs, while reorganizing their peers. An explanation of how children have an indirect effect on their acculturation is that they do not want to move away from their cultural beliefs. They are then shunned by a certain social group and considered strange. It is important to be involved in our own growth in the concept of Social Justice, as the explanation explains, everyone deserves the same rights and access to opportunities. Using social justice allows us to look for opportunities to learn about and advocate for social change. Such as Racism. Social justice involves every person having their inalienable rights, life, liberty, and property. Along with these inalienable rights we should also consider access to healthcare for mental and physical health. References
