Jeremy Mitchell American Public University System CHFD 331: Parenting Instructor: John Terzynski December 10, 2023 Week 1: The Process of Parenting (Weekly Journal Reflection) First topic: For this week’s reading, the topic that I was reminded about was ‘Parenting Programs’. I haven't really thought about how important these programs can be for parents and the kind of help they can provide. I have not really thought about this topic for a while, because it was leased talked about in school. The reason why this topic is very important, because the program supports parents and their young children ages 0-12 years through active, hands-on experiences using trained parent education professionals. Second topic: Another area of topic that I found interesting was ‘authoritative parenting ’. I learned that this is the kind of parenting style that I tend to follow and feel that it is the best parenting style, because authoritative parents set rules and enforce clear boundaries to guide their children toward becoming responsible adults. When it comes to authoritative parenting, I did not know that kids can tend to be more physically active and encounter lower levels of harmful stress, often linked to less responsive parenting styles. This new information is very important to me, because this results in fewer behavioral problems such as delinquency and children are more likely to develop a secure attachment and better relationships with their parents.
