Describe two different ways of knowing. Which of these do you rely on and why? Provide an example. Then, describe the danger of professionals relying on just one way of knowing. What might be a consequence of this reliance? Yegidis, Weinbach, and Myers (2018), discussed different ways of knowing. Two ways of knowing are empirical which focuses on obtaining facts and observation through the research method and intuitive which focuses on self-perception and instant awareness (Yegidis, Weinbach, & Myers, 2018). I would mostly rely on intuitive knowledge because I feel more confident when I am aware and I can explain things more in depth. However, I think relying on empirical knowledge would be a better because there is actual evidence being reviewed and processed to show that the information given has more originality. For example, in my previous job, I knew that issues in my client's home was going to arise because in the past, these client's have caused problems so when I get a specific feeling or I become aware what is happening, I feel that the issue will arise again. The dangers of professionals relying on one way of knowing is that intuitive knowledge is not a guarantee and can cause a bias towards an individual or society because of what they think they knew or felt. The consequence of this reliance is if the individual has a social worker who only goes off intuitive knowledge their needs may not accurately be met and can continue to have issues. In the National Association of Social Workers (NASW, n.d.), Code of Ethics, social workers have to abide to the client and ensure their needs are met correctly. References Yegidis, B.
