RESPONDING TO PEERS!!! Respond to two colleagues by proposing an intervention that would address the indicators identified. Explain the potential impact of social work interventions such as this on adolescents’ lives. How might Stephanie’s adolescent life have improved with this intervention? Hey Angeline! Great post. An intervention to consider would involve implementing a peer support group in a school setting. Within this support group, students like Stephanie can come together in a safe space to share their experiences, feelings, and struggles with peers dealing with similar issues. A few ways to approach suicide-related crises include expressing support and concern, being patient, and having one person speak at a time (National Alliance on Mental Illness (n.d). This could help Stephanie feel less alone and develop a sense of belonging, improving her well-being. Stephanie may benefit from and learn healthy ways to cope with her challenges by learning from her peers. Social work interventions like peer support groups can have a significant positive impact on adolescents' lives. However, Stephanie may feel reluctant to participate in groups due to mental health stigma. It may also be challenging to talk about sensitive topics in a group setting for Stephanie. However, creating a supportive intervention for Stephanie can improve her self-esteem, allow her to feel more understood and accepted, and increase her coping skills. This intervention can improve Stephanie’s life to feel more empowered, develop better resilience, and have a positive outlook on her life. I have enjoyed References National Alliance on Mental Illness. (n.d.-a). Risk of suicide . https://www.nami.org/About-Mental-Illness/Common-with-Mental-Illness/Risk-of-Suicide readin g your post! Thank you for sharing. Hey Lauren! I enjoyed reading your post! An intervention addressing the indicators you identified would involve building a supportive relationship with and for Stephanie. This would include working one-on-one with Stephanie, where you provide a supportive space for her, attentively listen to her feelings and concerns, validate her, and help her develop coping strategies to deal with her challenges. Having an open and compassionate mindset and active listening techniques, such as reflecting on their feelings, can help Stephanie feel heard and validated (National Alliance on Mental Illness (n.d). Additionally, collaborating with her parents, teachers, friends, and counselors can help keep Stephanie safe by creating a support plan. Stephanie’s adolescent life can improve with this intervention to help her develop better emotional regulation skills, feel connected to those around her, and understand that it is okay to seek help when needed. With the support of those around her and with you, she could work
towards building a positive mental health journey and learn how to navigate challenging situations. Stephanie may be hesitant to seek support from others because she might feel like no one understands her. However, by addressing Stephanie’s emotional challenges, interventions can help her reduce feeling alone and hopeless. This intervention can allow Stephanie to communicate better with her family, have a stronger support network, and feel connected. Thank you for sharing! Reference National Alliance on Mental Illness.
